High-Impact Postgraduate Specialisation with Guided Dissertation
Guru Nanak Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology offers one of Eastern India's most comprehensive Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) suites across seven specialized fields. As an autonomous institute accredited by NAAC ‘A+’ and NBA, GNIPST pairs high-level theoretical instruction with intensive faculty-guided laboratory research.
The M.Pharm program spans 2 years (4 semesters). In Year 1, scholars complete advanced core and elective coursework, seminar presentations, and instrumental methods. In Year 2, scholars dedicate themselves completely to independent dissertation research, generating original experimental findings, filing patent applications, and publishing papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Seven Advanced Specialisations in Pharmaceutical Sciences
Select your field of expertise from our PCI-approved postgraduate specialisations:
M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics
Formulation science, novel drug delivery systems (NDDS), nano-carriers, liposomes, bioavailability enhancement and industrial processing.
M.Pharm in Pharmacology
Preclinical screening, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular research, toxicological evaluations, molecular bio-assays and pharmacokinetics.
M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry
Structure-activity relationships (SAR), synthetic medicinal chemistry, computer-aided drug design (CADD), NMR and spectral elucidations.
M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance
Analytical method development, validation protocols, cGMP audit readiness, stability testing, quality by design (QbD), and risk analysis.
M.Pharm in Regulatory Affairs
Global pharmaceutical dossiers (CTD/eCTD), US FDA, EMA and CDSCO regulatory frameworks, clinical trial regulations, and patent filings.
M.Pharm in Pharmacognosy
Standardization of phytopharmaceuticals, medicinal plant extraction technologies, herbal formulation design, and nutraceutical analysis.
M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
Biopharmaceuticals, recombinant DNA techniques, monoclonal antibodies, fermentation engineering, and microbial diagnostics.
Central Instrumentation, Guided Dissertations & Publications
M.Pharm scholars work alongside research-active, PhD-qualified faculty members in dedicated laboratory suites. The Central Instrumentation Facility at GNIPST houses advanced analytical and formulation apparatus:
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
Modern gradient HPLC systems for drug purity assays, pharmacokinetic profiling, and dissolution method developments.
Gas Chromatography & Spectrophotometers
GC systems, UV-Visible double beam spectrophotometers, and dissolution apparatus with automatic sampling manifolds.
Independent Guided Dissertation
Full 1-year independent research project culminating in a defense, thesis submission, and manuscripts for SCOPUS/SCI indexed journals.
Doctoral Ph.D. Progression Track
Seamless transition to ongoing institute Ph.D. research programmes with funded government research grants (DST, DBT, CSIR).
Specialization subjects, Advanced Instrumentation, Research Methodology, Biostatistics & Seminar Presentation.
Independent lab dissertation, journal paper publications, thesis defense and final colloquium presentation.
Journal Clubs, Research Colloquia & Industry Seminars
Postgraduate scholars at GNIPST regularly participate in departmental journal clubs, presenting critical reviews of recent breakthroughs in drug discovery, clinical trial designs, and patent landscapes. The institute regularly hosts international webinars and guest lectures from senior scientists at Sun Pharma, Cipla, Dr. Reddy's, and leading CSIR laboratories.
Admission Criteria & Seat Matrix
Pass in B.Pharm degree from any institution recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), securing at least 50% aggregate marks (45% for reserved categories).
Combined approved annual intake across all seven M.Pharm disciplines is 105 seats (15 seats per specialization), admitted through GPAT / PGET / MAKAUT counseling.
